Promoting Sustainable Value Creation through Business Leadership
The Business Council for Sustainable Development Zimbabwe (BCSDZ) is a member-led organization dedicated to promoting awareness, knowledge, and practical expertise in sustainable development within the Zimbabwean business community.
Founded over 24 years ago (originally as the Environmental Forum of Zimbabwe), our organization was established by visionary business leaders concerned with environmental stewardship. As global perspectives evolved, we transitioned from a focus purely on environmental issues to a holistic approach encompassing the three pillars of sustainable development:
- Economic Growth
- Ecological Balance
- Social Progress
Our Legacy: From Forum to Global Partner
Founded on Foresight Over 24 years ago, a visionary group of Zimbabwean business leaders formed the Environmental Forum of Zimbabwe. Driven by a shared concern for our natural resources, they sought to encourage a phased implementation of environmental management programs across the private sector.
Evolution of Purpose As global priorities shifted, so did we. In line with international thinking, we broadened our agenda beyond environmental protection to embrace the Three Pillars of Sustainability:
Economic Growth: Driving profitable, long-term business value.
Ecological Balance: Protecting and restoring our natural environment.
Social Progress: Enhancing the lives of our employees and communities.
Global Alignment Today, as the Business Council for Sustainable Development Zimbabwe (BCSDZ), we operate as an autonomous body and a long-standing Global Network Partner of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).
Governance & Leadership
The BCSDZ is anchored by a robust governance framework, including a formal Constitution and a strict Code of Conduct.
Board of Trustees: Provides high-level oversight and ensures adherence to our founding principles.
